China's birdlife has some 1324 species (with 534 species of mammals) over 32,000 species of higher plants and has 1400 nature reserves. China is home to over 80 globally threatened bird species and for 40 of these, China is critical for their survival. For each tour we organise we contribute a percentage of each tour to one of these 40 species.
The birds in Yunnan Province here are quite different from any we have seen in China. There do not seem to be magpies, which are so common in Xi'an and Nanjing. Hoopoes are our favorite, improbable-looking bird. We saw them in Nanjing and Xi’an. Thanks to Susan Kingston for her great identification work.
