This laid-back Tibetan village makes an excellent base to explore the wonderful Dhon-Drupling Gompa (Dongzhulin Temple), 22 km heading northwesterly along the main road from Zhongdian. Besides of the Dongzhulin Temple, the Benzilan village might be more attractive for most visiters.
Several religious practices are associated with Ringha’s Temple of the 5 Wisdom Buddhas. Devotees come here to pray for good health, to be cured of illnesses and to be blessed with children. In an effort to accumulate good karma, the faithful release chickens and other animals that had been slated for slaughter and allow them to roam freely.

Tiger Leaping Gorge is divided into three sections: Upper, Middle and Lower Hutiao. At the narrowest spot the river is only 30 meters wide. The mouth of the gorge is 1,800 meters above sea level. The river is flanked by Yulong and Haba snow mountains, with a height difference of 3,900 meters. It is one of the deepest gorges in the world.
Baishui Tableland, also named the White Water Terraces, is located in the foothills of the Haba Snow Mountains, 101 kilometers (about 62 miles) southeast of the Shangri-la County. It is known as one of the most attractive destinations in mysterious Shangri-La and is an ancient Chinese landform with a history of 200,000 to 300,000 years.
Haba Snow Mountain, its main peak 5,396 metres in height, stands 120 kilometres to the southeast of the seat of Zhongdian (Shangri-la) County. And its domain of 21,908 hectares, covered with a vertical distribution of forests, is rich in wildlife and plant resources.
Deqin is a town located in the Hengduanshan Mountains in Yunnan province. 80% of its 55,000 inhabitants are Tibetan. If you can deal with the altitude (3550m) it makes a great place to hike from, and if you cant then just hanging out in town is also very rewarding; a small piece of Tibet, accessible without expensive permits.
Feilai temple, the best place to watch goden peaks of Meili mountain at sunrise. So if u plan to watch sunrise, it’s absolutely a good idea to live at Feilai temple the night before. But actually it is unusual to see the goden peaks. The peaks of the mountains are often surrounded with clouds due to the high altitude they are.
Yubeng Village is a beautiful and miraculous place. When walking in the village, tourists will have a sense of walking at Shangri-la. Located at the back of the Meli Snow Mountains, it is surrounded by mountains. Because of its unique location, there are only 20 households living here and connects outside world only with one small road.
The magnificent Mingyong Glacier is located about 12km north of Feilai Si and it is considered as the lowest glacier within China. The Mingyong Glacier flows for several kilometres down the flanks for the highest peak of the Yunnan Province, the Meili Xueshan (Mt. Meili, Kabego or Kawa Karpo).
