For kayaking novices, there are opportunities to for tranquil day trips around Dali. [Due to an abundance of hydroelectric stations, unfortunately the area around Dali is not suitable for whitewater rafting, though further North, it is still possible].
ErHai Lake Kayaking: ErHai lake is a 700 square kilometer freshwater lake that sits at the foot of the CangShan mountains, and occupies the majority of the Dali valley. ClimbDali offers half-day guided kayaking tours of the eastern shore of ErHai, taking in the NanZhao folk island and surrouding villages. For more intrepid kayakers, we offer a guided crossing of ErHai (from XiZhou to ShuangLang), with a recommended overnight stay in ShuangLang. Return to Dali via minivan or bicycle (45km).
MiQie Stream Kayaking: In and around the rainy season, the MiQie stream swells and it is possible to enjoy a 3-5 hour rafting ride, through villages and a scenic marshland. We will enter the river north of Dali, near a local hot springs resort, and it is recommended to combine a visit to the hot spring with the river kayaking trip.
Little HeiHui River Kayaking: This stream is probably more scenic than the MiQie Stream, and runs through the Shaxi Valley down into Shaxi Old Town. For thos that wish to experience a more rustic kayaking experience, this is a good bet. Tours can be arranged by the HorsePen 46 Guesthouse in Shaxi.
