The Naxi is a minority with a long history and a brilliant culture. With a population of 300,000, this group lives mainly in Yulong County, Lijiang City, Yunnan. It has become known worldwide or having kept its own ancient and unique Dongba Culture and thus claimed to be a small ethnic group that has created a grand culture.
Fang Guoyu, native of Lijiang, born in 1903, Naxi Nationality, CPC member, became tutor of doctoral students in Chinese ethnology in 1981. Fang graduated from Peking University as a post graduate in 1933 majoring traditional Chinese culture.

Zhiyun Temple (指云寺) is a lamasery situated in the west of Lashi Basin. It was built in 1727 and was made up of thirteen different structures. However during the Cultural Revolution many structures were badly destroyed with only six structures remaining intact.
Wenfeng Temple (文峰寺) is located in southwest of Lijiang City at an elevation of 3,465 meters. The Lama temple was built in 1733 A.D. during the Qin Dynasty.
Located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and 15 kilometers away from Lijiang Old Town, the Dongba Valley is home and livelihood of Naxi people. Traditional houses of Naxi and other peoples are open to visit.
