Nujiang Ethnic Minorities and Customs


Nujiang is a multi-cultural prefecture with many ethnic minority groups, including the Lisu, the Nu, the Dulong and the Bai. The Lisu and Bai people account for approximately 52% and 28% of the prefecture's total population, respectively.

 

Varied eating habits, ceremonies, costumes, folk legends and festivals, such as Kuoshi Festival, Xianhua Festival and Kaqiewa Festival, when people gather together to sing and dance, make Nujiang a colorful prefecture.

 

Nujiang Autonomous Prefecture is located in the northwestern part of Yunnan Province, bordering Burma to the west. It covers an area of 14,703 sq km. Its population is 0.5 million.
