Weixi County Travel Guide

Weixi Lisu Autonomous County (simplified Chinese: 维西傈僳族自治县) is located in Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan province, China.

South of Deqin a road now stretches roughly 500 kilometres along the banks of the Mekong, Southeast Asia’s greatest river. It hovers high above the river at times, making for spectacular views. The valley is steep but nevertheless cultivated, and it is inhabited by Tibetans at first, and further downstream by Lisu, Naxi and Bai people.

You have a choice to travel along this whole section of the river in a number of days, or along just part of it using one of five access roads. I will advise you on the best option for your type of tour and clients.

Weixi is a lively county town, and an interesting mix of tradition and modernity. You find new shops and hotels alongside old wooden buildings. Some of the Lisu and Yi women still wear their traditional dress. In the morning, Lisu boys take their charcoal and other merchandise into town - they are drunk by noon. Their horses contrast sharply with the hip bright colours of the taxi’s. To the west of Weixi lies the Mekong river. To the east, roads lead to the Yangzi river and Lijiang, among other places. One of them passes through a very beautiful rural valley. Here too I will advise you on your options.

About Tacheng Black Snub-Nosed Monkey National Park in Weixi County
As a national park integrating primitive ecology, Neolithic sites, religious pilgrimage place, paradise of black snub-nosed monkey and multi-national style, the scenic area is particularly distinguished with the religious culture and temple scenic sports such as the dense forest, valuable and rare animals and Patriarch Bodhidharma's Cave as well as “Re Ba” of Tibetans and customs of Lisu Nationality. Samage Nature Reserve has hundreds of black snub-nosed monkeys, a national Grade I protection animal.

About this part of my trip ("the nine lakes and one mountain"), I am very grateful to the retired cop Uncle He, the tour guides A'chu and his wife, and Guangming, the school in the village and all the villagers.The following information is provided by Uncle He and from my seeing and believing. I was asked to do a promotion for this area for more travelers as it's a virgin place for the outside world. I am very willing to try to do this simply because of their friendship, their sweet and honest personality and the poverty living condition they have been having.

The mysterious "nine lakes and one mountain" is located in Luotongshe Village, Luoyi Administrative Village, Badi County, Weixi County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It's in the central part where the three rivers (the Lancang River, the Jinshajiang River and the Nujiang River) meet. The characteristic views are famous for the highland lakes, snow mountains and meadows, the rhododendra flowers, the jungles and camellia forests.The name of the "nice lakes and one mountain" is translated from Tibetan with the meaning of the precious stones in the water, whose sea level of the peek is around 4000 meters. The great view of the rhododendra flowers and snow mountains in the summer is the best in the world, where i was dancing through the snow with a sky full of dreams.

Luoyi Administrative Village is ethnic diversified for mostly Lisu people and few Han People. It's a division for Tibetan People and Lisu People. It's neighbor Deqin County where the famous Meili Snow Mount.is located is dominated by Tibetan People. Luotongshe Village is completely a Tibetan Village. There are 43 households with 220 people in this remote village. The local people worship their 5 mountains who are regarded as their God. There are many different tales about the nine lakes.But you are going to find them out by yourselves.

So after my trips in Yezhi, i took a van to LuotongShe for 1 hour. A board for the name of the nine lakes and one mountains is set by the roadside. The village has a clear policy that each family takes turns to entertain the travelers to ensure fairness. The wife of A'chu was waiting for me when i arrived.
