Yunnan Normal University,Kunming

Yunnan Normal University (云南师范大学) is located in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province. Established in 1938 as the National Normal College of Southwestern Union University based on Beijing University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University, it was named as National Kunming Normal College in 1946 when the faculties returned to the north.

Formerly the “Teachers’ College” of the famous Southwest Associate University that was jointly founded by Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University that moved southwards in 1938, Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) is located in the beautiful “Spring City” Kunming —— capital of Yunnan province. YNNU has brought up prestigious alumni such as Nobel Prize winners Dr. Yang Zhengnin and Dr. Li Zhengdao.

YNNU’s campuses cover 3,680 mu. The university has a faculty and staff of more than 2,000, among which, 205 are professors, and 535 are assistant professors. The university has got an enrollment of 16,000 undergraduates and postgraduates. YNNU is composed of 23 schools and 34 research institutes, offering 1 Doctor’s Degree program of Agriculture Industry, 75 Master’s Degree programs, 54 B.A. specialties. All programs are open to international students. Our university has established academic cooperative program and research affiliation with 59 universities overseas.

Yunnan Normal University is authorized by the government to receive international students. It is the only base of UNESCO in southwest China to train in-service English teachers. YNNU organizes the Examinations of HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) and the Examination of National Certificate of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language for Yunnan.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was named as Kunming Normal College. In April 1984, with the approval of Yunnan Provincial Government, it was renamed as Yunnan Normal University. In February 1999, the university merged with Yunnan Educational College and Yunnan Physical Education Further Education College.

Yunnan University Science Park (YNUSP) was established as an experimental site of University Science Park in 1999 and was awarded the status of national university science park in May 2001. The Park is supported by Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science & Technology and Yunnan Normal University.
