  1. Caoshan Mountain in Huize County,Qujing

Caoshan Mt or Grass Mt is in the northeast of Dahai Township of Huize County in the north of Yunnan. With the altitudes ranging from 3,570-4,017 meters above the sea level, Caoshan Mt belongs to Wumeng Mt Ranges; and its highest peak is Jiangyunnong Peak (locally called Guniuzhai by the Yi people around). In the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the king of the Nanzhao Kingdom (738-937) bestowed Caoshan Mt “the East Lofty Mountain” (“Dong Yue” in Chinese). Dahai is the homophony of “Da Qi Bai” in the Yi dialect meaning the highest place. With gently undulating terrains, Caoshan Mt covers a vast expanse of alpine meadow of about 12,000 hectares. More than 20 kinds of alpine forage grasses can be found growing here such as fescue, rye grass, red clove and white clover. Due to its spectacular sights of peaks, grass, water, light, flowers, clouds, snow, cave and ethnic culture, Caoshan Mt has been crowned “New Zealand of Yunnan”. Azaleas and Buddhist Halo What is the most impressive in Caoshan Mt is the azaleas (rhododendrons) at the foot of Jiangyunnong Peak. In spring and summer, varied azalea (rhododendron) flowers come out in a riot of colour. At sunrise of sunny days, a halo-that is deemed miraculous “Buddha’s Radiance”- will be most probably witnessed. Locals say, in the past a monk had become a Buddha through painstaking Buddhist cultivation; and it is the luck of visitors if they can witness the halo. Travel Tips (1)-Travel route: Kunming (Long Haul Bus Ride)-Huize County-Dahai Township-16 km-Caoshan Mt.
