  1. Dali Rock Climbing Tour in Cangshan Mountain

Rock Climbing Trips / Courses / Holidays
Regardless of your level of experience, Yunnan is a great place to rock climb. There are a handful of great locations, including several here in Dali. We offer a variety of climbing trips, courses, and holidays for all levels of experience, tailored to your needs, budget, and available time. All of our guides are well-trained, and our equipment is UIAA-certified. Safety is our #1 Priority, followed closely by your satisfaction. We invite you to browse our programs, and if you can't find anything that suits you, let us know and we will create a customized program just for you!

Dali Rock Climbing Tour in Cangshan Mountain

If you're stuck for entertainment on a rainy day or you aren't ready to commit to climbing outdoors, feel free to stop by our Boulder Bar in Dali Old Town for a climbing session on our artificial wall.

Most of our programs are flexible. You can choose the location, as well as which activities you'd like for us to include. Biking and Climbing? No problem! Hiking and Climbing? No problem! Hiking and Biking and Kayaking and Climbing and Abseiling? No problem! Don't let the fact that you've never climbed before discourage you from trying!
Dali Climbing Trips / Adventures

All of our climbing programs and adventures include equipment (including climbing shoes), at least two guides, and transportation. If you are bringing bikes with you please advise us if you need a vehicle with a bike carrier. Our overnight programs are also priced to include accomodation and meals. Exact prices depend on the number of people and time of year, so please contact us if you'd like more information and/or would like to make a reservation.
Half Day Climbing Program:

This program is perfect for those with little or no prior climbing experience and want to get a taste of what it feels like! Depending on your preference, we can leave either in the morning or in the afternoon, and plan on returning to Dali about six hours later. Up on arriving at Shuanglang - a traditional Bai minority village on the other side of Erhai Lake - we will hike 300m up a hill, past fruit trees and cacti, to a series of cascading cliffs. After a brief overview of safety and the basics of climbing, we will set up top-rope climbing systems for routes of varying difficulty. Start with the easiest one, and climb until you can't feel your arms! All of the routes offer stunning views of Erhai, Dali Town, and the CangShan mountains.

Climbing + Kayaking/Cycling (2 Days, 1 Night):

This is our featured program. We leave around noon for ShuangLang. After checking into the Sky And See Lodge, a Bai-style guesthouse, you can spend the afternoon as you wish, whether kayaking on Erhai Lake, cycling along the lake-side roadway, exploring nearby villages, practicing yoga, or simply curling up in a lounge chair on the dock and daydreaming. [One alternative is to cycle from Dali Old Town directly to Shuanglang, though this will leave less time for afternoon activities/resting].That evening, we will eat a traditional Bai meal consisting of whatever is seasonal, such as "Frog-skin" (actually tree moss), fried goat cheese, fresh fish, and a wife variety of fresh vegetables, After dinner, there will be time to socialize with the other guests, watch a movie, etc.

Plan on waking early the next morning, and gorge on fresh cow's milk, red bean pastries, rice congee, egg/vegetable pancakes, and even coffee. After breakfast, we will hike up to the nearby cliffs, and rock climb to your heart's content, belayed by ClimbDali guides. We will return to the Sky and Sea Lodge for another filling meal, before checking out and heading back to Dali Old Town.

Rock Climbing &Trekking (3 Days, 2 Nights):

The first day of this trip is similiar to our half-day rock climbing program. We will spend the afternoon rock climbing at Shuanglang, and the evening at Sky And Sea Lodge. On the second day, we will wake at dawn and embark on a grueling hike to JiZu Shan (Chicken Foot Mountain), a holy Daoist mountain that is now a popular destination for locals and pilgrims. Depending on our pace, the hike requires around 8-10 hours, and features unbelievable views of ErHai Lake, CangShan, and JiZu Mountain from afar.

The hike winds past villages and a high meadow filled with grazing cows, before moving through a 3,500 meter mountain pass and down into an old-growth forest. We will arrive late that evening (or early the next morning if we decide to break the hike into two days). The fthird day, we will rise at dawn to watch a beautiful sunrise and spend some time exploring the temple complex before taking a bus back to Dali.
Climbing Courses / Instruction
For those that have climbed a little before, perhaps during your Paphos holidays, and want to take their climbing to the next level, we have designed several instructional courses. The emphasis is on hands-on teaching, and our goal is to create self-sufficient and confident climbers.  Time is spent on the ground learning skills that you will then practice on the rock, under the supervision of a professional guide. The goal is to spend as much time climbing as possible, since experience is the best way to improve.

As with our adventure programs, all of the courses include transportation, equipment (including climbing shoes), and guides. Please contact us if you'd like more information and/or would like to make a reservation.

Top-Roping Course (Full Day):

This course will give you a great head start on becoming a safe and competent climber. Designed for those new to the sport as well as climbers that want to improve their fundamental skils, participants gain exposure to the techniques and equipment required to rock climb with the highest degree of safety in mind. The course provides an introduction to ratings, equipment, climbing knots, belaying, rappelling, rope handling, anchors, and movement on rock. Learning and climbing go hand in hand, so participants can expect to spend plenty of time on the rock, under the security of a top-rope. For those interested, we are also happy to teach you the basics of rappelling (abseiling). Applying your new skills of top-roping and belaying, you will help build a rappel and then step out over the edge and lower yourself to the ground.
Lead Climbing Course (3 days):

Ever wonder how a route is climbed without the security of a top-rope? Tie in directly to the rope with confidence and clip your own protection, after learning to lead climb with one of our guides. We show novice lead climbers how to maximize safety, addressing the major causes of accidents and how to avoid them. The focus is on sport climbing, and covers topics such as rope management, setting and cleaning anchors, dynamic belaying, falling, and handling anxiety.

The goal of this course is to turn you into a competent lead climber, so that in the future you can go climbing without the assistance of a guide. FYI - this course is designed for those that have a reasonably strong background in climbing. If you aren't sure whether it's appropriate for you, please contact us for more information.

Advanced Instruction:

This course is geared for those of you that are serious about  rock climbing. While the course is completely tailored to your level and expectations, potential topics range from technical leading skills to building a traditional anchor for abseiling, from catching hard falls to pushing your limits as a climber. This course is ideal for those who have some lead climbing experience but are still quite nervous on lead. It is also ideal for experienced gym lead climbers that want exposure to outdoor climbing.

Climbing Holidays / Tours
The founders of Climb Dali have been rock climbing in China since 2004. We know all of the best areas for rock climbing and all of the best crags, and take pride in planning comprehensive rock climbing vacations for those that are keen to spend more time on the rock and less time buying bus tickets and booking hotel rooms.

While the focus of our rock climbing trips is, well...climbing (duh!), there will be opportunities for other activities, like cycling, kayaking, and some light trekking. There will also be (limited) opportunity for cultural excursions, since let's face it: you came all the way to China, and you need to show your friends that you did something more than just climb rocks all day. And of course, there will be plenty of great Chinese food.

All of our climbing packages are fully cutomizable. We designed the itinearies below in order to spend the least amount of time in transit. If there is a particular crag/region that you are interested in visiting (or that you want to spend more time at) that isn't on the list below, let us know and we'll see if we can squeeze it into the itinerary. If we can't make it work, we'll be happy to recommend another guiding service that can assist you.

Finally, while it's assumed that you have at least some experience (gym climbing, perhaps), it's not at all necessary, and our trips are designed to suit all level of climber, from beginner to advanced.
