 Feilaisi Monastery in Deqin

Tourist description about Feilaisi Monastery

From here, we’ve entered the pure Tibetan area. Meili mountain is situated on the border b/t Yunan province and Tibet.

Feilai temple, the best place to watch goden peaks of Meili mountain at sunrise. So if u plan to watch sunrise, it’s absolutely a good idea to live at Feilai temple the night before. But actually it is unusual to see the goden peaks. The peaks of the mountains are often surrounded with clouds due to the high altitude they are. And this makes more interestings for Meili. There’s a kind of saying that, if any Japanese appears in this area then people can’t see the golden peaks that day. This is because Japanese are not welcomed by Tibetan people. Yes, they hate Japan and Japanese, just like people in notheast of China.

We are lucky, we saw the golden peaks of Meili. Some photography lovers stay there for many days, some even live for couple of weeks, to wait that moment.

Here are the three main peaks of Meili mountain. The most famous one is Kawadgarbo, it’s also the highest one with altitude of 6740m. It is one of the eight mountains worshipped by Tibetans, and it is Sheep. Year 2003 is the “water sheep year” appears every 60 years in Tibetan calender. And it says that in this year 108 mountain gods will get together at Kawadgarbo. So if praying at there on 20003, prayers will 1000 times of their fortune. And on 2003, more than 500,000 prayers went to Kawadgarbo. So if you got there on the right time, you could see groups of devout Tibetan prayers on the road. Every step they kneel and pray from leg to arms, facing to the ground. You must be shocked when seeing this, even more there are groups and groups praying like this.

By the way, Kawadgarbo is a virgin mountain because till now no one can climb to the peak. B/f 2000, many mountaineering team tried to conquer, but they all failed, even some big accidents happened that killed many climbers. On 2000, the local government of Deqin county invited many specialists to hold a conference and finally a declaration came out, which says “we have to protect this mountain”, from then on noboday is allowed to climb this mountain.
