  1. Menghun Sunday Market Xishuangbanna

Menghun is a village an hour and a half away from Jinghong. The village itself It’s nothing especial but on Sunday there is a market that gathers people from different minorities as DaiBulangHani…wearing their traditional costumes making a very colorful market.

After a while wondering around the market with Judy, We dedided to go for a walk around the village, which is mainly populated by Dai minority. We could see the style of their houses and the everyday life in the village. Many of them work in the fields and tea plantations that surround Menghun.

We took a side road to see what was there and We found a tea factory. Judy, asked to a lady who was there If We could go inside and visit it and She agreed. It happen She was the owner of the factory. To come with Judy was very useful as here people can not speak a word of English and She also could ask in my behalf in Mandarin about the tea and also things to the ladies in the market.

The owner of the Pu’er tea plantation invite us to have lunch in there with their family. This is a very good chance to know the locals better, so we didn’t hesitate to say yes when she asked us.

We could see all the process of getting the tea ready for sale: from the Dai women coming from the tea plantations (they work everyday from 6am to 2pm aprox) loading that huge sacks of tea leaves to get them weight (and see how the owner only pay 25 yuan per 5 kilos/day) to all the process, with machinery involved, that the tea leaves have to pass until they get dried and ready for sale.

We went to have another walk around the village before getting the lunch that was delicious by the way. The owner also gave us to taste the different kinds of tea they create. She also told us that they have some very special tea bushes dating hundreds of years and which are very wide and make such and special tea. That’s why It’s so precious.

We spend such a good time and the people were so kind! but that was time to get the bus to go back to Jinghong and say goodbye to another day to remember.
